Vol. 361 No. 8

Written Answers. - FCA Training Schedule.

22.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will extend FCA training to its original schedule next year; the reason this has not been done in 1985; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

While a final decision has not yet been taken in the matter, I do not anticipate that it will be possible to extend the duration of FCA annual training for 1986. It would be, of course, my intention to continue arrangements for the payment of the full amount of the gratuity to members who undergo annual training.

The reduction in the normal training period in recent years has been necessary as part of the Government's programme for achieving reductions in the level of public expenditure. Naturally, I would be anxious to see the normal situation restored and I regret that the restrictions continue to be necessary. I am satisfied that an acceptable standard of training is being maintained.
