Vol. 361 No. 12

Written Answers. - Bicycle Accident Statistics.

66.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of bicycles that have been involved in accidents for each of the last four years for which figures are available which (a) were fatal and (b) resulted in injuries causing permanent maiming; and if he will distinguish between the Dublin metropolitan area and the rest of the country.

An analysis of road accidents, based on road accident information recorded by the Garda Síochána, is published annually by An Foras Forbartha in the report entitled "Road Accident Facts". Copies of these reports, the latest of which is for 1984, are available in the Dáil Library. The reports do not provide information in the form requested by the Deputy. However, details of the number of pedal cyclists reported killed or injured in the State as a whole each year are provided in table 12 of these reports while corresponding figures for the County Borough of Dublin are given in table 30.
