Vol. 361 No. 13

Written Answers. - Nitrogen Subsidy.

80.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when the nitrogen subsidy announced last August will be paid; if it will be paid to merchants or farmers; if the people who qualify for the nitrogen subsidy automatically qualify for the winter fodder scheme; and when the silage subsidy will be paid to farmers who made silage for the first time.

Payments of nitrogen subsidy direct to farmers have already begun. People who qualify for nitrogen subsidy do not automatically qualify for silage subsidy. The nitrogen and first time silage making subsidies are the two elements of the winter fodder scheme 1985 and separate applications were necessary. It is expected that payment of silage subsidy will commence in the near future.
