Vol. 362 No. 1

Written Answers. - Canadian Beef Imports.

195.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has made representations to the EC in relation to the allegations by the Canadian Cattlemen's Association that beef imports from EC countries are undercutting Canadian meat prices, which accusations may damage the valuable Irish beef export trade to Canada; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Both I and my Department have been in touch with the EC Commission about this matter. The Commission is actively pursuing it both in the GATT and direct with the Canadian authorities.
