Vol. 362 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Employment Scheme.

204.

asked the Minister for Education if a caretaker and school secretary can be approved for Deansrath primary school, Clondalkin, County Dublin, in view of the urgent need for the services at the school and having regard to the fact that the National Manpower Service approved such posts under the social employment scheme but applicants under that scheme were not forthcoming.

In accordance with the Government decision to phase out the schemes for the employment of caretakers in national schools and clerk-typists in national and secondary schools, it is not open to my Department to approve the appointment of a clerk-typist and caretaker for Deansrath national school. The operation of the social employment scheme is a matter for the Department of Labour. I understand, however, that under the scheme, a caretaker has recently been appointed to Deansrath national school.
