Vol. 362 No. 1

Written Answers. - Farm Safety.

32.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is concerned at the apparent increase in farm injuries and fatalities; and if, in conjunction with farming organisations and co-ops, he will initiate a safety campaign directed towards farmers and their families, to deal with this problem.

The available statistics relate only to fatal farm accidents and these do not show any significant change in recent years. However, this does not mean that every effort should not be made to prevent such accidents. It has long been the policy to promote farm safety through educational, advisory and publicity measures. These activities are now directly implemented by ACOT which emphasises the safety aspect in their courses at agricultural schools and colleges and in their advisory work on the farm.
