Vol. 362 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Appointments Commission Advertisments.

43.

asked the Taoiseach the reason salaries for public positions are no longer placed in advertisements placed by the Local Appointments Commission.

The practice of omitting salary scales in advertisements placed by the Local Appointments Commission was adopted by the commissioners in an effort to control expenditure on advertising. The majority of vacancies being advertised are similar posts under the various local authorities or health boards; the approximate level of salary is known to the people who are interested; candidatures are satisfactory and full details of the salary scale are given in the documentation issued to intending applicants.

Where the post being advertised is a new type of one or where the status of the post may not be clear it is the practice to quote the minimum and maximum points of the salary scale. Employing authorities are satisfied with these arrangements. A similar practice operates in relation to advertisements placed by the Civil Service Commission.
