Having regard to the serious disease situation in a number of areas of County Galway, my Department's veterinary officers have been giving particular attention to the difficulties encountered there in recent months. This attention has taken the form of ongoing intensive testing in the problem areas, specialist advice to herdowners and active investigation of the role of wildlife. There have been signs of improvement recently in the disease situation in County Galway and it is hoped that further progress can be achieved through intensive testing and continuing co-operation and involvement by farmers.
