Vol. 362 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Free Allowances.

113.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin 5 has had her tax free allowance reduced from £35 to £17.04 and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that for the current year, 1985-86, the taxpayer and her husband are assessable to income tax on their combined incomes under the provisions of section 194 of the Income Tax Act, 1967. The figure of £17.04 mentioned in the question is the aggregate weekly amount for the current year of the PAYE allowance (£600) and the PRSI allowance (£286). These are the only allowances to which the taxpayer is enttled for 1985-86.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason tax is being deducted from the pension of a person (details supplied) in County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that the inspector of taxes wrote to the taxpayer on 18 April 1985, for the details required to determine the correct amount of tax free allowances to be allocated against his retirement pension. As a reply has not been received, a reminder will now be issued to the taxpayer.
