Vol. 362 No. 2

Written Answers. - Cahir (Tipperary) Court Sittings.

31.

asked the Minister for Justice if it is proposed to discontinue court sittings at Clogheen Courthouse, Cahir, County Tipperary.

Limerick East): The available accommodation for the District Court at Clogheen courthouse is inadequate and in bad condition and Tipperary (South Riding) County Council, who are responsible for the maintenance of the building, requested some time ago that its use for District Court sittings be discontinued because of the substantial cost that would be involved in repairing it. On account of this and because of the small volume of cases heard at Clogheen court — 443 in the legal year ended 31 July 1984 — I had decided to discontinue sittings at Clogheen and to have the Clogheen business taken in Cahir. The county council have just now indicated that they wish to reconsider their position and, in the circumstances, I propose to defer making the appropriate Order until I see their full proposals.
