Vol. 362 No. 2

Written Answers. - EC Disaster Fund.

58.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has plans to assist vegetable growers who suffered severe crop losses due to the inclement weather of this summer and early autumn; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In general, vegetable crops did not suffer unduly from the weather conditions during the summer and early autumn. Growers within the area of the Shannon Valley flood scheme who suffered severe crop losses from land flooding were eligible to apply for assistance under the scheme. An application has also been made for assistance from the EC Disaster Fund for farmers in a particular area of Leinster who suffered damage as a result of the hailstorm on 25-26 July 1985. No decision on that application has yet been received.
