Vol. 362 No. 3

Written Answers. - Fire Regulations.

34.

asked the Minister for the Environment the maximum fines for breach of the Acts in relation to locked exists in public premises and dance halls; if there is a minimum fine: if not, the reason; if he is satisfied with the legislation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to section 5 (2) of the Fire Services Act, 1981, which provides for a maximum penalty of up to two years imprisonment and or a fine of up to £10,000 on conviction on indictment in respect of a breach of the relevant regulations; in accordance with the usual practice there is no provision for a minimum penalty. I have no proposals at present for amending legislation in this respect.
