Vol. 362 No. 14

Written Answers. - Income Tax Yield.

42.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will confirm that the intake from income tax including levies significantly exceeded his intitial budget projections in 1983 and 1984; and if he expects a similar situation to prevail in 1985.

The total yield from income tax, income levy and youth employment levy did not significantly exceed the budget estimate in 1983 and 1984. The original budget estimate for the total yield from these taxes in 1983 was £1,866 million, and the outturn was £1,778.1 million. The corresponding figures in 1984 were £2,105.2 million for the budget estimate and £2,128.0 million for the outturn. The total yield from these taxes this year is expected to be marginally short of the budget estimate of £2,294.0 million.
