Vol. 362 No. 15

Written Answers - Audit Investigation.

41.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if a co-op (details supplied) is under investigation by his Department and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It would be inappropriate for me to confirm or deny whether my Department are investigating the operations of any particular co-operative society. I might say that in discharge of our obligations as a member state of the Community, the operations of the many enterprises in receipt of EC agricultural grants and subsidies, which will amount to over £800 million in 1985, are audited on a regular basis by my Department's staff and also on a selective basis by auditors from the Commission and the European Court of Auditors.
