Vol. 363 No. 1

Larceny (Amendment) Bill, 1985: Order for Second Stage.

Bill entitled an Act to extend the criminal law with regard to dishonest handling of stolen property, to reform the law in relation to the carrying out of robbery, burglary and other such offences and, in particular, the commission of these offences in daytime, to increase the penalties applicable to certain crimes of dishonesty and to provide for related matters.

I move: "That the Second Stage be taken in Private Members' Time today, 22 January 1986".

Question put and agreed to.

I want to raise with the Chair the subject of a private question I addressed to the Taoiseach concerning lay-offs at Tuam and Thurles. The question bore the names of 26 Deputies on this side of the House. I cannot understand why the Chair said it is not an urgent matter when the lay-off to workers took place last Friday. I want to know the extent of the Government's commitment to the continuance of these two factories.

I have already communicated with the Deputy.

I wish to raise this question on the Adjournment.

I will communicate with the Deputy.
