Vol. 363 No. 4

Written Answers. - FEOGA Grant.

88.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the reason the application of a person (details supplied) in County Kerry for a FEOGA grant from the European Commission was rejected in respect of his fishing boat; and if he will make a statement on the matter indicating if he is prepared to forward this application for reconsideration to the European Commission.

An application for a FEOGA grant on behalf of the person in question was first submitted in 1979 but was unsuccessful. The application was resubmitted in each of the following years up to 1983 but was unsuccessful on each occasion. In 1983 a new FEOGA grant scheme was introduced and the application was again submitted for reconsideration under this new scheme.

However the Commission decided that the application was not eligible for consideration. The Commission are not required to give a reason for their decision. Since the Commission's decision is final, I regret that there is no further action that I can take in the matter.
