Vol. 363 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Sligo Arterial Drainage.

96.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will list the rivers where moneys will be spent under the allocation for arterial drainage for 1986; when work will begin on the Arrow/Owenmore rivers in Sligo; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Funds allocated for arterial drainage construction works in the Vote for public works and buildings in 1986 will be spent on the Boyne, Maigue, Corrib-Mask-Robe schemes which are due for completion during the year and on the Boyle, Bonet and Blackwater (Monaghan) schemes, which will continue for some years. Work on the design of a drainage scheme for the Owenmore catchment, of which the Arrow river forms part, has been suspended following a Government decision to halt arterial drainage planning pending the outcome of a review of arterial drainage policy. The review, which has been completed by the Commissioners of Public Works, will be submitted to Government as quickly as possible. At this stage, I cannot say when a scheme for the Owenmore catchment might commence.
