Vol. 363 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bog Development.

14.

asked the Minister for Energy if he will make available to the public the report prepared by Bord na Móna regarding possible development of bogs in the Castlerea and west Roscommon area.

I do not have the report in question which is an internal Bord na Móna document prepared several years ago for the board's own use. I understand that Bord na Móna do not wish to make the report public.

It was envisaged that the bogs in west Roscommon would be developed with a view to providing a briquette factory in Castlerea. Has the Minister any information on this matter? Castlerea is very much in the news at present, as the Ceann Comhairle is aware.

No, I do not have any information other than that, because of the commercial considerations involved in the report, Bord na Móna wish to keep it for their own use.

Will those bogs be developed in conjunction with the development of the bogs at Derryfadda where we are also hoping that a briquette factory will be completed?

That is a separate question.

It is concerning the west Roscommon bog and its development.

I was asked a question relating to a report. I have confined my reply to dealing with that report and I do not have information about projected developments or otherwise of the west Roscommon bogs.

Perhaps the Minister would have some information about the development of bogs in south Longford. He might send me some information on what it is proposed to do in the future.

I always try to make information available to Deputy Reynolds on the basis that he reads everything I give him.
