Vol. 363 No. 10

Written Answers. - Compliance with EC Directive

14.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if in view of the recent difficulties experienced by Irish firms and the possible consequences for Irish employment, he intends to initiate action to secure compliance by Ireland with the provision of Article 13 of the Council Directive of 27 July 1976, number 76/767/EEC entitled The Approximation of the Laws of the Member States Relating to Common Provision for Pressure Vessels and Methods of Inspecting Them.

I am not aware that the non-appointment of Irish inspection bodies under Article 13 of Directive 76/767/EEC is causing any major difficulties for Irish firms. I am aware, however, that this situation has caused some inconvenience and additional expense for some Irish manufacturers of pressure vessels. I am making arrangements through my Department to have the matter dealt with as a matter of urgency.
