Vol. 363 No. 12

Written Answers. - Dublin Unemployment Statistics.

66.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if, as the unemployment figures are not compiled on a constituency basis, he will provide his best estimate of the numbers unemployed in the constituency of Dublin South at the latest available date; the corresponding figures in each of the previous four years; and the number of young persons included in those figures.

Published figures in respect of the number of unemployed persons in Dublin are based on the total number of people registering as unemployed in each of the Dublin employment exchanges. Claims for unemployment payments are not recorded and consequently statistics are not maintained on a constituency basis. As unemployed persons from a particular constituency could be registering at any one of a number of offices, it is not possible to estimate the total number of unemployed from the constituency of Dublin South alone.
