Vol. 364 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Computerisation.

42.

asked the Minister for Health the Government's policy on the use of computers in Irish hospitals; the present position with McAuto trials; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department's policy is to provide hospitals and health boards with computerised systems which will help improve patient care and support accountable management. The pilot schemes in the introduction of McAuto patient administration systems are progressing satisfactorily. The implementation of a major information systems programme is vital to the further improvement of effectiveness and efficiency in the planning and delivery of services. It will continue to be a top priority for my Department.
