asked the Minister for the Environment when inspection of a house will take place with a view to approval of an application for a house improvement grant on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 35 to 37 inclusive, 40, 43, 53, 58, and 65 together. The Deputies will be aware of my announcement last week that the need for prior inspection is being dispensed with in the case of all valid applications for house improvement grants, under the 1985 scheme, received in the Department on or before Tuesday, 25 February 1986. Any person who has made a valid application and who has not yet received a visit from an inspector, will be sent a letter of approval by 10 March. The work involved should not be commenced before receipt of such letter and will, of course, be subject to the requirements applicable (other than the prior inspection requirements) when the person concerned applied for the grant.

asked the Minister for the Environment the up-to-date position regarding an application for a new house grant and mortgage subsidy for a person (details supplied) in County Donegal.

Approval to a new house grant and mortgage subsidy has been issued to the applicant and the file has been referred to the inspector for final inspection by appointment. A grant will be paid when the inspection establishes that the house has been satisfactorily completed and occupied and that all the conditions applying to the grant have been fulfilled. Payment of the first instalment of the mortgage subsidy will be made following payment of the grant and on receipt of the appropriate claim form duly completed and certified by the relevant lending agency.
