Vol. 364 No. 5

Written Answers. - Curragh (Kildare) School.

27.

asked the Minister for Education the reasons that a decision has been made to phase out the senior cycle at the Curragh post-primary school, County Kildare, having regard to the fact that permission has been granted to another smaller school in County Laois, that the Curragh school has excellent results and that the closure of the senior cycle effectively means the end of the school at the Curragh.

County Kildare VEC were operating leaving certificate courses at the Curragh Vocational School without the approval of my Department. Account has already been taken of the accommodation requirements of leaving certificate pupils from the Curragh area in the school developments already underway at the nearby centres of Kildare. Newbridge and Kilcullen. In those circumstances it was decided to phase out the senior cycle at the Curragh school.
