Vol. 364 No. 7

Written Answers. - Psychiatric Services.

84.

asked the Minister for Health if, following his decision to close St. Dympna's Hospital, Carlow, he will elaborate on his statement that an acute psychiatric unit of about 20 beds will be located in Carlow.

Discussions are in progress with the South-Eastern and Eastern Health Boards concerning the provision of alternative psychiatric services to the service now provided in St. Dympna's Hospital, Carlow. The alternatives to be provided include an acute in-patient service for people from County Carlow and the details of this provision will be worked out with the South-Eastern Health Board in the coming weeks. One of the options being considered is the provision of an acute psychiatric unit in Carlow.
