Vol. 364 No. 7

Written Answers. - Irish Pig Production.

143.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the effect the reduction from 104 per cent to 102 per cent in pig meat sufficiency in the EC member states forecasts will have on Irish pig production.

The latest European Commission estimates available to my Department project a level of self-sufficiency in pigmeat of 102 per cent for 1986 as compared with the 1985 figure of almost 103 per cent for the Community of ten member states — the Community does not yet enjoy full access to markets in Spain and Portugal. It is unlikely that such a small change in EC self-sufficiency will have any noticeable effect on Irish pig production.
