Vol. 364 No. 8

Written Answers. - Ground Limestone Sales.

77.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will comment on recent reports on the fall-off in the use of ground limestone especially in western areas and the effect this could have on farm incomes and the agricultural economy in the future.

In view of the advantages accruing from the use of lime, the decline in sales of ground limestone last year was regrettable. The decline can to some extent be attributed to the continuous bad weather which made if difficult to spread lime for long periods of the year. My Department and ACOT will continue to emphasise the importance of adequate liming in achieving the best returns from the land.
