Vol. 364 No. 9

Written Answers. - Grant Payment.

27.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a person (details supplied) in County Galway who applied for a grant under the 1985 house improvement grant scheme has not been approved for a pre-1940 dwelling grant; and the reason she has been approved for a grant of £3,000 when the cheapest estimate she got for carrying out the required work is £7,500.

A pre-1940 dwellings special grant was not approved in this case as the cost of the works as estimated by the Department did not reach the qualifying limit of £4,000 (paragraphs 3 and 12 of Memorandum HA 2). The maximum grant of £2,000 otherwise payable for carrying out necessary works to the fabric of the house (category (f) of the house improvement scheme) has been approved.
