asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry the number of people who are engaged in research in the Forest and Wildlife Service; the number of those who are scientists; the proportion of forestry research which is carried on within the service; and the proportion which is carried out by outside research institutes.

There are 48 people employed on research in the Forest and Wildlife Service of my Department of whom 24 are scientists. The proportion of forest research which is carried on within the service is approximately 80 per cent and the balance is done by IIRS, An Foras Talúntais and University College, Dublin.
