Vol. 364 No. 11

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

44.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for the Environment when payment of a new house grant will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal.

A grant will be paid when an inspection establishes that the house is completed and occupied and that all the conditions of the scheme have been fulfilled. Following an inspection of the house in October 1985, the inspector reported that he was not satisfied that the house was occupied by the applicant as his normal place of residence. Documentary evidence has been requested to establish full time occupation of the house and when this is received the application will be further considered.

45.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of a house improvement grant to be sanctioned for a person (details supplied) in County Galway; the total estimate involved; and the reason an increased grant has not been sanctioned.

A grant of £600 for the building of an extra bedroom to relieve overcrowding, which was the maximum available under the 1981 scheme, was sanctioned in February 1985 and the Department's estimate for the proposed works was about £5,000. The applicant has not exercised the option available to him of having the application dealt with under the 1985 scheme, if work on the extension had not commenced. He may, of course, still do so if the work has not yet begun and he awaits an inspection before starting work.
