Vol. 364 No. 11

Written Answers. - Prefabricated Chimneys.

46.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received a request from Dublin County Council to make the necessary capital moneys available to enable prefabricated fire-places to be replaced with traditional masonary chimneys and flues in tenant purchased dwellings which were originally provided by Dublin County Council and which have not been sold by the tenant purchasers; if he will agree to make such moneys available having regard to the fact that these prefabricated fireplaces have proved extremely unsatisfactory, defective and dangerous from the fire point of view; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have received an application from Dublin County Council for a capital allocation to finance the replacement of prefabricated chimneys in tenant purchase houses in the council's area. I would refer the Deputy to the reply to Question No. 45 answered on 19 March, which sets out the position in relation to the upkeep and maintenance of houses purchased from a local authority under tenant purchase schemes.
