Vol. 364 No. 11

Written Answers. - Destruction of Public Property.

105.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to comments in Sunday newspapers (details supplied) in which a person has publicly stated that he intends to continue destroying public property, specifically religious statues; if so, the action he intends to take to prevent further acts of vandalism being carried out; and if he will make a statement regarding these attacks on property.

It is a matter for the Garda Síochána to take whatever action may be practicable and appropriate in matters of this kind, including bringing the circumstances to the notice of the Director of Public Prosecutions where the need arises. I am informed by the Garda Síochána that they are well aware of the position referred to in the question, that they are giving it all appropriate attention and will continue to do so.
