Vol. 364 No. 11

Written Answers. - Arrival of Immigrants.

106.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will explain the circumstamces which led to his decision to permit the Guru of the Rich Bhagwen Shree Rajneesh and his party to enter Ireland and remain here; the period for which residence has been granted; and since the person concerned is a deportee from the United States, if he will make a statement on the matter.

On Friday, 7 March, immigration control at Shannon Airport was informed by the airport authorities that a private plane was landing at the airport and that it contained a sick person accompanied by a nurse. The plane landed and those occupants who were subject to immigration control were admitted in accordance with the provisions of the Aliens (Amendment) Order, 1975, on the understanding that their stay would be of short duration.

I am satisfied that the immigration officer concerned acted properly and in accordance with the law on the occasion.

The persons in question left the State on 18 March.
