Vol. 365 No. 3

Written Answers. - Claddagh (Galway) Employment Exchanges.

21.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will provide shelter immediately for the unemployed men and women who have to queue outside the employment exchanges at Claddagh, Galway.

The Commissioners of Public Works have taken a lease of a premises at Saint Augustine Street, Galway, which they will adapt for use as employment exchanges for both men and women in Galway. It is expected that the exchanges will be open to the public very early next year. While I sympathise with the unemployed having to queue, particularly in inclement weather, outside the existing exchanges at The Claddagh, Galway, the Commissioners could not justify expenditure on shelters when the need for them would disappear not long after they had been provided.
