The Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital provides specialised ophthalmic and ENT services. It is the Department's policy that specialised services such as these are best located on a general hospital campus and the rationalisation plans for hospital services in Dublin provide for the transfer of the services at present provided at this hospital. Pending this transfer it is accepted that the hospital should have the necessary facilities to continue to provide its specialised services. Discussions are at present taking place between the hospital and my Department on bed needs for opthalmology.
