On the receipt of notification of completion of the work, a final inspection will be arranged with a view to payment of the grant.

A house improvement grant cannot exceed two-thirds of the approved cost of the work. This cost is estimated by the Department's inspector using standard costings and not on a builder's estimate. It was on this basis that a grant of £500 was approved for this applicant.

asked the Minister for the Environment if the rate of a house improvement grant for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford will be increased; and the reason the approval given was not two-thirds of the cost of the works as estimated by the inspector.
The grant approved related to the provision of a bedroom extension and the carrying out of roof repairs. A maximum grant of £2,000 has been approved, in respect of the extension and a further grant of £960 (that is two-thirds of the cost as estimated by the Department) has been approved in respect of the repair works. These are the maximum grants allowable in accordance with the conditions of the scheme.
