asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry the number of salmon licences issued in County Galway; and the location of each licence.

Commercial salmon fishing licences are issued in respect of fishery districts by the respective regional fisheries boards. Fishery districts are determined by the catchment areas of rivers which could include part of several counties.

Most of County Galway is covered by the Western Fisheries Region which comprises the Galway, Connemara and Ballinakill fishery districts.

Under the Control of Fishing for Salmon Orders 1980 and 1982 the maximum number of commercial salmon fishing licences which may be issued for these districts is as follows:
