Vol. 365 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Meath National Monuments.

37.

asked the Minister for Finance the amount of finance each of the ten counties in the Trim district have been allocated out of the £370,000 provided to the Office of Public Works at Trim, County Meath, for 1986 under repairs and maintenance; to national monuments; the relevant figures under this heading in 1985; and the amount of finance allocated for each national monument in County Meath for 1985 and 1986.

As indicated in my reply to Question No. 36 taken on 17 April 1986 it is not practicable to forecast expenditure on routine maintenance works on a county basis. Neither does the manner in which records are kept permit of the allocation of expenditure on routine maintenance on a county basis.

There was no major conservation work carried out on a national monument in County Meath in 1985. Some urgent repairs were carried out at St. John's Castle, Trim, in 1985 at a cost of £7,600 approximately. Urgent repair works are being carried out at present at Athlumney Castle at an estimated cost of £6,000.
