Vol. 365 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Cork School.

54.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in the building of a new school at Leamlara, County Cork, in view of the hardship being imposed on the children in the existing school and the frustration of the parents with the delay; and if he will now have a decision expedited on their behalf.

My Department have agreed to grant aid the provision of a new national school at Leamlara, County Cork, which will contain three classrooms, a general purposes room and the usual ancillary accommodation.

On 21 February 1985 the necessary advices were given to the chairman of the board of management of the school to enable him to apply for planning permission. The processing of the application, which was one of some complexity, took longer than usual. Planning permission finally became available in September 1985.

The contract documents are at present being prepared by my Department's professional advisers and I have asked that they be completed at the earliest possible date. When the contract documents have been completed the question of invitation of tenders will arise for consideration and my Department will convey a decision to the school authorities as early as possible.
