Vol. 365 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Kildare Schools.

55.

asked the Minister for Education if he will arrange for payment in full of moneys owed in connection with: (a) the extension to Athgarvan national school, Newbridge parish, County Kildare; (b) the extension to St. Conleth's national school, Newbridge parish, County Kildare; (c) the heating and electrical work and replacements in St. Conleth's girls' national school in Newbridge, County Kildare; and the reason for the delay in making these payments.

The following is the grant payments position in relation to the national schools in Kildare referred to by the Deputy.

(a) Athgarvan National School: Following receipt from the school authorities of the final account for the extension to the school, a substantial interim grant payment was made. When the mechanical and electrical installations were inspected, a further interim payment was made. A small balance of grant was retained pending the making good of a number of defects in the mechanical and electrical installations which the inspection had disclosed. My Department were recently advised by the school authorities that the defects in question had been made good and the matter is being considered with a view to the payment of the balance of grant due at an early date.

(b) St. Conleth's National School, Newbridge: The final account for the extension to the school was received by my Department on 24 March, 1986 from the school authorities and is being examined. It is hoped to make a grant payment to the school authorities at an early date on foot of the final account. It will be necessary to retain some grant monies pending the usual final inspections by my Department.

(c) St. Conleth's Girls' National School, Newbridge: The final accounts for the mechanical and electrical installations at this school were received in my Department on 31 January 1986. The accounts are in the process of being examined with a view to an interim grant payment on account being made at an early date pending final inspection of the installations.
