Vol. 366 No. 6

Written Answers - Abolition of Post.

15.

asked the Minister for Health if he will reconsider his decision to abolish the post of director of community care; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As part of my consideration of the future organisation of community based services, I have decided that if the post of director of community care is to be retained, the posts will not be confined to medically qualified persons.

I am satisfied that, given the number of quite separate responsibilities which were incorporated into the post of director of community care-medical officer of health, it is necessary that these elements should be devolved as appropriate in the interests of a more effective community care service.
