I have proposed to the Western Health Board that a 30 bed psychiatric unit should be provided from within existing accommodation in Roscommon County Hospital. The health board agrees to the provision of the unit but considers that it should be provided by way of new building on the hospital grounds. The matter is at present the subject of correspondence between my Department and the health board and until it has been resolved, it is not possible to estimate the capital cost of the project.
