Vol. 366 No. 9

Written Answers. - Seed Potato Exports.

29.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the reductions in exports of seed potato for County Donegal during 1985; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Seed potato exports, the bulk of which came from County Donegal, fell from 15,000 tonnes in 1984 to 9,500 tonnes in 1985. The poor growing conditions and the consequential late harvest resulted in much of the early export market being lost. Later in the season weaker demand in export markets coupled with increased production in some competitor countries aggravated the position further.
