Vol. 366 No. 10

Written Answers. - Leaving Certificate Statistics.

61.

asked the Minister for Education the number of children who took the leaving certificate examination in each county in the last three years for which figures are available, and the number who entered university.

Departmental statistics do not provide information in the form sought by the Deputy and the amount of time which would be involved in its compilation would not be warranted.

I would, however, refer to Participation in Higher Education: A National Survey by Dr. Patrick Clancy which was published by the Higher Education Authority. Table 13 of the publication shows the percentage rates of admission, related to an age cohort, of new entrants to higher education in 1980 by county of permanent residence and by third level sector.

A copy of this publication is available in the Oireachtas Library.
