Vol. 366 No. 11

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take No. 47. By agreement, the proceedings on Votes 44 and 45 shall be brought to a conclusion not later than 12.30 p.m. today and the Minister of State at the Department of Defence shall be called on to conclude not later than 12.15 p.m. today. Also by agreement, the proceedings on votes 20, 21, 22, 23, and 51 shall be brought to a conclusion not later than 4.00 p.m. and the Minister of State at the Department of the Public Service shall be called on to conclude not later than 3.45 p.m. today. Also by agreement, if a division is challenged on any estimate today, the taking of such division shall be postponed until 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday, 28 May 1986.

Also by agreement, and notwithstanding the Order of the Dáil of 21 June 1983 the debate on the motions relating to the following reports of the Joint Committee on Public Expenditure:

(A) 1984-85 Annual Progress Report

(B) Review of Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited

shall be deferred and taken at the earliest opportunity.

Are the arrangements for today's business agreed and is it agreed that the motion relating to the reports of the Joint Committee on Public Expenditure be deferred and taken at the earliest opportunity? Agreed.

I raised yesterday morning the forthcoming strike of Dublin Corporation workers. I wish to ask the Taoiseach if his Minister will intervene in order to avoid the collapse of emergency services.

The Deputy cannot raise that matter.

It is extremely important.

It may be important but I do not have to tell the Deputy that it is not in order.

I would like to know if the Government will intervene in an effort to avert this strike.

I am sorry, I cannot allow that.

Can I ask the Taoiseach what action he and the Government are taking to ensure that £2 million lost to the economy as a result of the agricultural officers' strike——

The same principle applies as that which applied to Deputy Brady's question.

We cannot raise either urban or rural matters.
