Vol. 367 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Galway School.

175.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the provision of a school (details supplied) in County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An application for a new building for the school identified by the Deputy was recently received in my Department. The application is being considered in the context of the commitment to seek a more effective and cost-efficient use of available resources as set out in paragraph 5.12 of the Programme for Action in Education 1984-1987 which states:

Each building project in course of planning, and all future proposed projects, will be examined in the context of Post-Primary School resources generally in the catchment area to determine the practicability of integration or, alternatively, co-ordination of facilities.

It is hoped to have this examination completed shortly.
