Vol. 367 No. 1

Written Answers. - Mentally Handicapped Person.

88.

asked the Minister for Health if he will furnish Deputy Fitzgerald with an up-dated report in the case of a teenager (details supplied) in Dublin 13 who is presently being supervised in the mentally handicapped unit at St. Ita's Hospital, Portrane; the form of therapy or care which is being provided for him; and the plan he has for the provision of appropriate care for him.

The person referred to was admitted to St. Ita's Hospital, Portrane on 3 May 1986, on the application of his parents. He had, prior to that, been a resident of Trinity House, Lusk, having been committed there on a two year Detention Order by the Courts on 21 August 1984. He is at present being supervised in St. Ita's Hospital and is undergoing assessment to decide on the most appropriate placement for him. In the meantime a therapeutic plan is being drawn up for him to try to deal with his behaviour problems. His future care is a matter for the professional judgment of the staff of the Eastern Health Board and every effort has been made and will continue to be made to provide appropriate care for him.
