Vol. 367 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Factories (Dangerously Flammable Liquids) Regulations.

10.

asked the Minister for Labour the present position in relation to the implementation of the draft Factories (Dangerously Flammable Liquids) Regulations.

The draft of Dangerously Flammable Liquids Regulations, which are proposed to be made under the Safety in Industry Acts, 1955 and 1980, has been published, as required by the Acts, in order that any representations from interested parties should be considered. Technical and legal questions are involved. When these have been resolved I hope to be in a position to go ahead with the regulations.

It appears a number of these EC regulations are at various stages of implementation. Will the Minister consider asking someone in his Department to examine the entire list of regulations? If it is the case that some are just difficult to implement or are not in the national interest, we would be better off knowing the facts rather than waiting until the evil day when someone in the EC will say we have not implemented them. It appears to me that people use every process they can to delay implementing the regulations. Some are extremely important and others are perhaps against our national interest, and it would be better if we knew where exactly we stood in relation to them. I asked the Minister to look into the matter because I know several other directives could also be questioned.

I accept what the Deputy has said and will do what he has suggested.
