Vol. 367 No. 3

Written Answers. - Western Package Electrification Scheme.

26.

asked the Minister for Energy whether the maximum number of connections to electricity supply provided for under the FEOGA western package electrification scheme has now been reached; the number of applications from individuals received in his Department that have had to be refused as a result of their happening; whether the Government has submitted any proposals to the EC Commission to extend the new supplies element of the scheme; when he expects to be in a position to receive a decision from the Commission in regard to this; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I indicated in response to a written question on 14 May that the maximum number of new connections has been reached and that a proposal to extend the number was with the EC Commission for approval. As a result of my direct intervention with the EC Commission, I am glad to state that they have now agreed to the proposal in advance of their consideration of the complete review of the FEOGA scheme. No eligible application was refused and such applicants whose cases were delayed will hear from the ESB in the near future.
