Vol. 367 No. 3

Written Answers. - Housing Aid for Elderly.

40.

asked the Minister for the Environment when an allocation is to be made to south Tipperary under the special housing aid for the elderly scheme for 1986.

The funds for this scheme are allocated to the health boards on a regional basis. The South Eastern Health Board, which is responsible for south Tipperary, has been notified of its allocation for 1986.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of people on the waiting list for the years 1984 to 1986 who have qualified under the special housing aid for the elderly scheme in south Tipperary.

Statistical information relating to the operation of this scheme in specific areas within the South Eastern Health Board region is not available in my Department. However, according to details supplied by the health board in the region as a whole, there were 64 approved applications awaiting attention at the end of 1984; at the end of 1985 the corresponding figure was 117. For the current year the total provision for the scheme was increased by £500,000; and this has resulted in a substantial increase in the allocations to individual health boards which, in turn, should have a significant impact on the number of cases that can be dealt with this year in the functional area of the South Eastern Health Board, including south Tipperary.
