Vol. 367 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Wexford Fruit Growers.

58.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether there is currently any EC or national financial relief available under any scheme for soft fruit growers in County Wexford, especially strawberry producers, who may lose up to 60 per cent of their crop this year because of the poor weather conditions; if he will investigate the possibility of pursuing some support in this area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

While this year's strawberry crop will be affected by the poor weather conditions, the market indications are that, because of an expected drop in the international supply of strawberries, prices should be considerably higher than last year.

There is no current EC or national scheme under which financial relief is available along the lines mentioned.
